Boat Insurance: Compare Quotes Nationwide
Boat insurance covers physical damage, liability, and on-water rescue for fishing boats, pontoons, ski boats, sailboats, and yachts. Homeowners policies cover only small craft (typically under 25 HP), so most boats need a separate policy.

What Drives Your Boat Insurance Price
- The boat's type, length, age, value and top speed
- Where you use it: lakes, rivers or coastal waters
- How many months a year it's in the water
- Your boating experience and any safety course
- Agreed value versus actual cash value coverage
- Discounts: a boater safety course, bundling with home or auto, a claims-free record
Each carrier weighs these factors differently, so the same person can get very different quotes. As an independent agency, Signature Insurance compares several carriers for you at once, and we can shop your policy again at renewal.
Boat Insurance FAQ
Will my homeowners policy cover my boat?
Only very small craft — typically under 25 HP, under 26 ft, and not used commercially. Anything larger needs a dedicated boat or yacht policy.
Do I need boat insurance if my marina requires it?
Yes. Marinas typically require proof of liability coverage (usually $300k or more) before they'll let you slip there. Lenders also require it if you financed the boat.
Agreed value or actual cash value?
Agreed value pays the amount you and the carrier set when you buy the policy, minus the deductible. Actual cash value subtracts depreciation at claim time. Agreed value costs a little more and is usually worth it on a newer boat.
Does boat insurance cover my trailer?
Many policies include the trailer or let you add it. We'll make sure it's listed on your quote.
Do I need coverage for a jet ski or kayak?
Personal watercraft like jet skis need their own policy. Small non-motorized boats may be covered by your homeowners policy, but it's worth checking.
Is my boat covered while it's stored for the winter?
Most policies cover the boat while it's laid up, and some lower the premium for the months it's out of the water.
